Skateboards are great to ride, but hoverboards are an entirely different level of fun altogether. They don’t really hover since they move on wheels, but that’s not really the point. These are the coolest gadgets in the market these days and social media is going absolutely crazy about them. Hoverboards, or ground gliders as they are also known are the hippest accessories these days, with more and more people using them for personal transportation since they are way faster and cooler than walking.

Hoverboards are far cheaper than Segways, which sell for around $5000, and they are very easy to carry around since they don’t have the vertical column of the latter. It’s not surprising that the market has been flooded with a huge range of products from many different manufacturers. While this means that you can get the exact type of hoverboard that suits your needs, it also creates a problem, which is that many of these devices can be fake.

So how do you determine if eBay hoverboard genuine exists or not?

There have been many instances of ground gliders exploding when they’re being used or even when they’re being charged. A couple of houses have even burned down because of hoverboards catching fire. Regulators had stepped in to address this issue and more than 17,000 of these devices had been examined for safety issues. Buying a cheap, but fake hoverboard can work out to be far costlier than you ever anticipated!

The safety problems around ground gliders seem to have mainly come from counterfeit products flooding the market from China. If you’re going to shell out anything from $400 to $1,800 on one of these devices, then you need to be absolutely certain that you’re getting what you’re paying for. You need to look out for eBay hoverboard genuine identification when you finally decide to buy one.

We’ve put together a list of things to check so that you know whether the device is genuine or not.

Check the plug:

If the device doesn’t have the BS 1363 safety mark then there’s a good chance that it’s a fake. The plug is also very likely shaped like a clover in which case you can be sure it is a poor quality fake. Even if the plug has the BS 1363 safety mark, examine it closely to check if it is genuine. Only the large pin on a counterfeit plug will be partially insulated, whereas all the pins on a BS 1363 will have partial insulation. Good quality pins might also be made of solid brass.

Examine the battery:

Many hoverboard fires have been caused by faulty batteries and poor quality casing. These batteries rarely have overcharge protection which means that they will keep getting charged until they overheat and perhaps even explode. Do also check whether there is a proper separator for the battery. Short circuits can be prevented by keeping positive and negative electrodes separated. This is a very common cause for fire.

The best batteries are from manufacturers such as Samsung or LG and they are unlikely to cause problems. Furthermore, these batteries cost more money, but their presence generally indicates that the manufacturer has used high quality materials throughout the product.

Does the price match the features?

If the product seems to have a whole lot of attractive features at a very low price then you can be sure that there’s a catch somewhere. It is most likely counterfeit, complete with fake markings. In fact, it’s best to stay away from a product that is priced very low because even if it is not fake, it simply won’t have the best features. If price is a major issue then you should buy the product from a retailer that is known to offer good discounts.

Who is selling the product?

There tend to be many problems with products sold by third party sellers since there is a high chance of poor quality materials being used. Therefore, it is best to buy the product directly from the manufacturer.

It is really quite easy to choose a genuine ground glider as long as you know what to look out for. Be prepared to shell out a fair amount of cash for these devices because they are not cheap. So ensure that you can afford to get one right away.
However, one thing is for sure; once you get the product you’ll be really happy that you bought it!
